Privacy Policy

Short version

Your book list is stored on your device. Book Spin does not create an account, does not show ads, and does not include analytics. Network requests happen only when you look up a book by ISBN, load a cover image, download a CSV you chose to share, or you tap to open Goodreads in the browser.

Information stored on your device

Book Spin keeps a local library using Apple’s on-device storage (SwiftData). For each book this may include title, author, ISBN, Goodreads book ID (if imported), binding, publisher, year, shelf, date added, genres, formats, notes, source (for example import or barcode), and a cover image URL.

A simple on-device setting records whether you have finished the first-run import screen.

If you share a CSV into Book Spin, a copy of that file may be held briefly in an App Group container so the main app can import it. It is not uploaded to the developer.

Camera

If you scan a barcode, Book Spin uses the camera only to read an ISBN. Camera frames are processed on the device. The app does not save photos from the scanner and does not upload camera images. You can refuse camera access and type the ISBN instead.

Network and third parties

The developer does not run a Book Spin server and does not receive your library. When a feature needs the internet, the app talks to these services:

• Open Library (Internet Archive) — ISBN lookup and cover images. The ISBN you scan or enter is sent so the title and cover can be fetched. See Open Library’s privacy information.
• Google Books API — used as a fallback if Open Library has no match. The ISBN is sent in the lookup query. Google’s processing is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
• Cover image hosts — the app loads cover artwork from the URL stored with the book (often Open Library or Google). Your device requests that image directly.
• Goodreads — Book Spin does not sign in to Goodreads and does not use a Goodreads API. If you import a CSV, parsing happens on your device. If you tap Accept, the system browser opens a Goodreads page (by book ID, ISBN, or title search). Anything you do on Goodreads is between you and Amazon/Goodreads.
• A CSV file you share — if you share a file or a link to a CSV, Book Spin reads it to import books. For a remote link, the file is downloaded to your device first.

Those services may see a standard request from your device (for example IP address, and for Open Library a product user-agent). The developer does not control their logs or policies.

What is not collected

• No Book Spin user account, email, or password
• No advertising identifiers, tracking pixels, or usage analytics in the app
• No sale of personal information
• No iCloud or other developer-operated sync of your library

Children

Book Spin is a general reading tool. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It is not directed at children under 13.

Your choices

• Delete individual books in the app, or remove several at once.
• Delete the app to remove the local library from that device.
• Turn off camera access in iOS Settings. Scanning will stop; ISBN typing still works.
• Stay offline except when you look up an ISBN, load covers, or open Goodreads.

Because there is no Book Spin account on a server, there is no cloud copy for the developer to delete on request. If you emailed support, that email is handled as ordinary correspondence.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated text will be posted at this URL with a new “last updated” date. Material changes that affect how the app handles information will ship with an app update when that is needed for the change to take effect.
